Dear Mr. Boyer:
If it's not too late, here's a comment on the Moravec proposal.
In general, I think the series is a good idea. I suppose that after
a first volume, subsequent volumes might tend to become specialized
by topic.
One person who might be asked to contribute to the speculations
about quantum mechanics is D. Deutsch of the Astrophysics Laboratory,
Oxford University. He is also an adherent of the the Everett
interpretation and writes about quantum computation. Here's a reference
to a recent paper that's too technical for the series but on a topic
that would fit.
\noindent {\bf Deutsch, D. (1985)}: ``Quantum theory, the Church-Turing
principle and the universal quantum computer'', Proc. R. Soc.
Lond. A {\bf 400}, 97-117.
I also have an article about interstellar travel that Moravec
might want to include.
There was a book I wanted, but I forgot what it was.
\closing
Sincerely,
John McCarthy
